The industry has been talking about food waste since 2012, with increasing levels of urgency. The issue was brought to the fore by commentators such as Footprint and the launch of initiatives such as WRAP’s Hospitality and Foodservice Agreement, but over half a decade later, waste remains one of the defining problems of our time.

Plastics and packaging have also now joined the party. Media events such as Blue Planet have lit the touch paper of both public and corporate consciousness, with business now beginning to grasp the plastics nettle. Trends and innovations are emerging but demand is yet to gain sufficient momentum to make the waste infrastructure as sustainable and as accessible as it needs to be.

It is vital that every business in the industry maximises actions to mitigate waste and corporate window dressing has no place. Footprint Forum seeks to give the industry insight and thought- leadership and a definitive update on the status quo of food and packaging waste in the out of home sector. Are we still just talking the talk or are we actually walking the walk? Where are we and what is an acceptable destination?
