The decision hopes to address the problem of attracting and retaining talented, hard-working people in the hospitality industry. The long, unsociable hours typical of the industry are often blamed for the shortage of suitable applicants.

Starting in November, the Michelin-starred Restaurant Sat Bains with Rooms will indefinitely trial opening for just four days a week. This will give staff an additional 48 days off per year, and should enable staff to spend quality time off with friends and family. According to the Bain’s research, this is a key issue to most candidates, alongside excellent working conditions, good pay and career progression.
