Servathon is an annual campaign which invites Sodexo employees across the world to tackle hunger in their local communities, through volunteering, fundraising or donating and serving meals. Sodexo employees across 25 countries took part in the Servathon 2013.

As part of this year’s drive, almost 70 volunteers gave a combined 465 hours across the UK to helping out at FareShare distribution centres during Servathon 2014.

FareShare actively fights food waste and hunger by redistributing surplus food to 1,296 charities across the UK, including children’s breakfast clubs, homeless shelters, day centres for the elderly, women’s refuges and drug rehabilitation centres. This food feeds 62,200 vulnerable and hungry people every day.

In the UK, Sodexo employees can volunteer for FareShare throughout the year, as well as raise money for Stop Hunger, the charity of the Sodexo Foundation.

Edwina Hughes, corporate responsibility manager at Sodexo, said: “Congratulations to all our volunteers who have made this year’s Servathon so successful. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the charity so by donating our time we really make a difference in helping FareShare deliver their mission, particularly during Servathon, but also throughout the rest of the year when FareShare invites and wants us to get involved.”

Lindsay Boswell, chief executive of FareShare, said: “Thank you to all the Sodexo employees who gave their time to volunteer with FareShare over the last two months. The partnership between FareShare and Sodexo is crucial in helping to redistribute food. It means we save the 1,296 charities we work with more than £16m which they can spend on their charity work.”
