SODEXO IS BUILDING on the trend of ‘wellness’ this autumn and following in the footsteps of high-profile health campaigns such as Cancer Research’s Dryathlon and the NHS’s Stoptober, launching its own month-long Wellbeing Challenge.
The Wellbeing Challenge, which is open to Sodexo’s 34,000 employees in the UK and Ireland, is being run through the Wellbeing Zone, Sodexo’s new website and smartphone app that allows employees to track their diet and physical activity and follow personalised fitness programmes.
The Wellbeing Challenge will run for four weeks and will focus on one theme each week: Nutrition, Fitness, Sleep and Mental Wellbeing. Employees are being urged to design challenges to suit their specific health and wellbeing needs, for example eating 5-a-day or walking 10,000 steps a day. Challenges can be undertaken by employees on their own, or employees can choose to involve their family or teams.
The Wellbeing Zone features advice and information about everyday health issues and fitness masterclasses from Sodexo’s health ambassador and former England rugby star, Matt Dawson.
Andy Rogers, Sodexo UK and Ireland’s HR director said; “We are committed to improving our employees’ quality of life and promoting a healthier workforce is a key component of that. The Wellbeing Zone is a great practical tool for employees and encourages our workforce to take simple steps towards better health.”
Anna Duffy, Health, Safety and Risk Manager for Sodexo’s Corporate Services business said; “As a team we are getting behind the Wellness Challenge, with employees across our various sites signing up to health and wellbeing goals throughout the month and then blogging about their experiences. From a health and safety perspective it is really important that our employees are fit for life and fit for work, to avoid the strains, sprains and back pain that can occur during moving and handling activities.”
Sodexo is committed to improving its employees’ quality of life through proactive health and wellness interventions. The company recently launched Sodexo Supports Me, a free confidential information and counselling helpline for Sodexo employees and their families.
