Liz Truss stays, Amber Rudd and Andrea Leadsom join DECC

THIS WEEK’S reshuffle has seen David Cameron line up his new green team. Liz Truss will continue as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), whilst in the same department, George Eustice is promoted to Minister of State and Rory Stewart is appointed as junior minister.

Andrea Leadsom takes over from Matt Hancock to become Minister of State at the Department for Energy and Climate Change. Hancock will become Minister of State at the Cabinet Office.

 

Amber Rudd, a vocal supporter of action to address climate change, has taken over as Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.

 

At the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), Andrew Jones was confirmed as junior minister at the Department for Transport.

 

Other appointments likely to impact on the green economy include Nick Boles retaining his post as Skills Minister at the Department for Business, while Jo Johnson takes over as Minister for Universities and Science. Sajid Javid MP becomes Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.

 

Expected to lead the government’s “Northern Powerhouse” initiative, James Wharton has been appointed to the Department for Communities and Local Government while Marcus Jones joins him at the department as Minister for Local Government.
