Footprint Forum: Circular Economy – Innovation or Imagination? in association with Copper Consultancy
May 1, 2014 @ 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Is the concept of a circular economy a sustainability fad or is it a principle that will become a pillar of the sustainability debate?
Those brands currently experimenting with a circular and restorative economy are at the early stages of experimentation; reminiscent of the onset of the food industry’s sustainability journey towards the end of the last decade. You will recall the early adopters gaining competitive advantage, leaving those that dismissed it as a fad behind. So should we be taking it seriously?
We know is that “Closed Loop” provides significant saving opportunities whereas an “Open Loop” model presents substantial revenue opportunities and both need to be understood in the context of the bottom line. Have we understood how this fits into our own ops? Can a circular economy, with totally new carbon implications actually justify any final saving? Do we understand the significant financial and reputational risks at stake and can we quantify the substantial investment necessary? Lots of questions....
One thing is for sure, a circular economy will become an increasingly competitive space and those ahead of the debate will be taking ownership of specific categories.
Footprint Forum sets out to disentangle the perceived complexities of the circular economy debate, with a view of highlighting many of the common-sensical attributes. Our objective is for delegates to come away with a clear understanding of how the concept of circularity could sit within your business model.
