Winterhalter, the market leader in commercial dish and glass washing, has launched a range of resource-saving technologies under the umbrella of irt (Intelligent Resource Technology). David Smithson, CEO for Winterhalter UK comments: I cant recall a meeting over the last year where saving energy hasnt been raised and where I havent been asked what we can do to help reduce energy, water and chemicals consumption and, ultimately, cut costs. Winterhalter invests in a continuous R&D programme. irt isnt the result of a single Eureka moment – rather, it is a series of developments, initiatives and events. Singly each of them is highly significant. Collectively, we believe they are momentous. To back the claim, David Smithson points out that each of the various irt features have the potential to save thousands of pounds in running costs. And the benefits will be available to every sector of the hospitality market: irt technologies have been developed for all Winterhalter machines, from the compact front loaders through pass throughs to the high volume rack and flight conveyor systems. irt: totally new Rinse system – up to 20% savings The new rinse system developed for Winterhalters front loader and pass through machines uses a radical new design of water-jet that delivers improved rinse results yet uses up to 25% less water. Less water means energy and chemical consumption are reduced too. The rinse system can deliver overall running cost savings of 13% with the GS200 and GS300 front loaders, and up to 20% with the GS 500 pass through washers. irt: Low temperature Glasswashing Winterhalters innovative new glasswashing system is called ReTemp (for Reduced Temperature) and it allows users to wash glasses at only 40 ?C, instead of the standard 60 or 65 ?C that traditional glasswashers require. Alongside the ReTemp machines, Winterhalter has developed detergent and rinse aid designed for use at 40 ?C. Not only does ReTemp deliver energy savings of up to 2,000 kWh a year, and reduce operating costs by 16%, it also improves the working environment, since much less water vapour escapes when the door is opened at the end of the washing cycle. At the same time, the ReTemp machine delivers cooler glasses, so they can be used straight after washing, with no need to cool. And the ReTemp rinse aid ensures they are properly dry, too. irt: energy and energy+ = Big savings Winterhalters Energy is an air-to-water heat exchanger that takes the waste steam from a GS 500 pass through dishwasher and uses it to heat the incoming fresh water. It reduces the connected load by up to 3 kW. Energy+ adds a water-to-water heat exchanger to the system. So as well as recycling the heat from the waste steam, it takes the heat from the GS 500 waste water and uses it to heat the incoming fresh water. It reduces the total connected load by up to 6 kW. As a result of reducing energy usage, the systems deliver big savings in running costs. With Energy, savings can amount to £821 per year. With Energy+ they can be as high as £1095. irt: mts fresh air drying zone – better results, less energy The MT Series of high volume rack and flight conveyor machines has a new drying zone that not only uses less energy, but also delivers better drying results. Traditional drying zones use warm air from within the machine to dry dishes – but the air tends to be saturated, so drying is compromised. The MTs new fresh air drying zone draws in air from outside the machine, warming it gently and then using it to dry the washed items. Because the fresh air is less humid, drying is significantly improved. And because the air only needs gentle warming, energy consumption is reduced – connected load is reduced by 2kW or 4kW, depending on the model chosen. irt: mtR rinse water saver MT high volume rack conveyor machines have a new rinse water saving feature that lowers rinse water consumption by 25 to 30%. The system has a newly developed rinse arm incorporating a swinging motion that uses less water whilst achieving better rinsing results. Depending on the model and the workload, the new system saves between 64 and 135 litres of water every hour. This results in savings in energy and chemical use, too.
